  The residential school unmarked graves of innocent children are a stark reminder of what horrors can come when a neo colonial extractivist philosophy is valued above the lives of innocent children. Extractivism means you extract oil from the ground, and extract labour from the people, and extract land from people, all above the value of our own dear children in our own dear human family. In the power of this moment of anguish, where is the power of the notion of a “nation?” In what some call "Canada," July 1 used to be called “Dominion Day” as if some power is dominating another. This year on july 1 let’s just leave that day unmarked. When I see photos of our Earth from space I don’t see any borders, so, for once, let’s unite as one family in this climate crisis and leave all the artificial borders on Earth unmarked. Choosing Nuclear Power is Needlessly Putting More Tools of Death Into Our Future: Two existential crises and the obvious alternative “Atomic Accomplice: How Canada deals in deadly deceit” a book written by Paul McKay in 2009 has a foreword by David Suzuki. One chapter is called, “Plutonim, the immortal outlaw.” (p 129) The word “immortal” refers to the fact that plutonium remains lethal for 250,000 years. McKay writes, “As a matter of physics, plutonium is created in every nuclear reactor of every make, model, size, purpose, or country of origin or operation…It takes a mere 8 kilograms to make a Nagasaki-scale bomb….” He continues, “Each year the odds grow worse that some of this accumulating, effectively immortal plutonium will be diverted by pariah states, or sold covertly for cash, or stolen for a bomb or nuclear blackmail. In 2009, the International Atomic Energy Agency disclosed that its data base includes 1,646 reports of trafficking, theft or loss of nuclear materials ...

 It was supposed to be an innocent Halloween party acting stunt in front of an audience. Just to scare everyone one on Halloween night – but not for real. But it didn’t turn out that way. I was in the audience and saw the fake noose which an actor put around his neck. Most of the audience already knew about the hidden body harness that was supposed to hold up the actor when he jumped, so they kept grinning to themselves, saying, “How clever.” Even when the chair was kicked out from under the actor, most of the audience never flinched… …until the body harness failed… …and suddenly the fake hanging became a real one. The grins on everyone’s faces were replaced with a strange ashen color. And the look of paralyzing shock was on everyone’s faces. Likewise, the COVID 19 virus will likely eventually starve and immunity will become more prevalent, thus making this a relatively temporary tragedy --relative to climate change. 150 years is how long CO2 remains a greenhouse gas, thus creating a cumulative effect, and a carbon budget which is now eight years from depletion . However , imminent tipping points and positive feedback cycles will put this problem out of our control for an indefinite time period. Those tipping points are upon us right now.
